Outlander author Diana Gabaldon feels sorry for George R. R. Martin

Game of Thrones author George R.R. Martin is a pretty busy man, contrary to what most of the A Song of Ice And Fire fans believe. It has been a decade since the last book in the series came out, and we can understand why a lot of fans are fuming at the delay despite him reassuring them again and again that yes, he is still working on the next book ‘Winds of Winter‘. Outlander author Diana Gabaldon actually feels sorry for him, who believes later seasons of Game of Thrones, that went beyond his books weren’t something he had in mind originally.

In a recent interview with The Guardian, Gabaldon talked about her career as a writer. As a matter of fact, she named one of her chapters – ‘Winds of Winter’, which can be interpreted as a dig or an homage to George R. R. Martin.

She explained, “Poor George, I feel very sorry for him. What happened is that his show caught up with him, and he then met with the showrunners and he told them what he was planning to do in that book, so that they could then write accordingly. Only they didn’t write accordingly, they took his stuff, and distorted it and wrote their own ending, which wasn’t at all what he had in mind but used all the elements that he told them.”

“They’ll never catch me,” she says. “I will certainly finish the 10th book before they finish the show.”
