Warriors coach Steve Kerr compares himself to Game of Thrones’ Arya Stark

The success of Game of Thrones over the past decade has turned it into a pop culture icon. It always finds its way being referenced in several other spheres. For example, we often find politicians comparing the affairs of the state with HBO’s highly acclaimed TV show. However, recently the show was mentioned in a completely different area of work, in the world of sports. The Warriors basketball team’s head coach, Steve Kerr, is pretty impressed with the performance of his players. And he compared himself to Game of Thrones’ Arya Stark.
In a post-match press conference, Steve Kerr quoted, “I’m like Arya from Game of Thrones. I have all the names of the media members who picked us to be outside the playoffs, and I’m just checking off the box.”

The Warriors are off to a 10-1 start — the best record in the league. They have the best net rating (by a couple of points), the top-ranked defense, and Stephen Curry playing like an MVP. That’s faster than even Warriors’ optimists had them coming out of the gate — and most pundits had the Warriors lower than that (for the record, I picked them fifth in the West). Some had the Warriors out of the playoffs altogether. Steve Kerr said he noticed and made an Arya Stark from Game of Thrones list of media members who underestimated the Warriors.
