With reviews of House of the Dragon Season 2 now being released, many people have been surprised that the members of Team Green have a far more intricate story than Season 1. Whereas Season 1 mainly dealt with the point of view of Rhaenyra and Team Black, the second season is said to humanise the Greens far more.

Tom Glynn-Carney, who plays the figurehead of the Greens and the ruler of the Seven Kingdoms, spoke to Jamie Broadnax about a very different aspect of Aegon’s character: his role as a father. As we know, Aegon has three children, Jaehaerys, Jaehaera, and Maelor, with his wife Helaena. Glynn-Carney spoke about Aegon’s role as a father to them and how he views his relationship with them. He stated:

“I think he’s a very proud father, this is something he’s… by this, I mean his children. This is a creation of his. This is something that’s come from him that is pure, that is new, that is living, that is beautiful, that he’s proud of.  And I think a lot of people are going to be surprised that he has the capacity to love and to be…. don’t get me wrong, I don’t think he’s a very present father, but I think he’s very proud. And I think he wants to be, but his dad wasn’t very present… didn’t acknowledge him. Even so I think he wants to kind of redesign himself through the means of his own children. I think that’s probably the best way to put it.”

Aegon’s character arc in Season 2 is closely tied to his children, particularly his son Jaehaerys, and Glynn-Carney has received praise from his critics for his performance.
