Game of Thrones was an epic fantasy, there’s no doubt about it. There’s yet to be another show that has come close to the quality and popularity that George R. R. Martin’s creation achieved, but the future is looking bright and we have several contenders. One of them is Amazon’s The Wheel of Time, which is itself an adaptation of Robert Jordan’s 14-book series. The showrunner, Rafe Judkins, is aware of the comparison being made with Game of Thrones, but he’s looking hopeful.

He told Den of Geek in a recent interview, “The Wheel of Time came out before Game of Thrones, in terms of the books. There’s so much that is in Game of Thrones – and George [R.R. Martin] will say this – that was inspired by The Wheel of Time. But we as creators have to be mindful of the fact that Game of Thrones has already come out and is a reference point for a lot of audiences.”

He continued, “The channeling is so integral to the world of The Wheel of Time. The author made a system that makes sense. It works; it has rules, and you have to follow them. So we’ve been really careful on the show to make sure that we’re holding to all of those same rules.”

“We didn’t just send it off to VFX and say, ‘Give us a simple light show.’ We started with Rosamund and a movement coach. Threads [of magic] are woven together; they call them weaves; they call it channeling. We went through everything in the books and passages discussing what it feels like to embrace the Source, what it feels like to weave things together.”

Game of Thrones was one of the biggest shows of the past decade. Due to its ginormous success, the show is getting a prequel series, House of The Dragon. While a spinoff show is good, a movie based on the epic fantasy would be even better, don’t you think? Well, Game of Thrones director Alan Taylor doesn’t share that opinion.

Director Alan Taylor was behind some of the biggest and best episodes of Game of Thrones during the show’s run. His latest big project is a prequel film to HBO’s other blockbuster series The Sopranos, and is called The Many Saints of Newark. In an interview with JOE, he revealed why he thinks making a Game of Thrones movie is not such a great idea.

“I almost did the Deadwood movie and it was heartbreaking to not do it. I had to drop out of the Deadwood movie to do the Sopranos movie!”

“Certainly, there could be a Game of Thrones movie, but in a way there was already a Game Of Thrones movie because the show was so big, so I’m not sure the jump to the big screen would be that different.”

“I’ll have to think of something more off-kilter, like a Bored To Death movie. I did the pilot to Bored To Death and that was a very unique tone and I just loved everything about it. So it would be hilarious to see that done as a movie.”

There are times when we move on with life, carrying memories of our experiences with us. Some memories dig deep into our hearts, and we want to keep a piece of them alive. The same is true for actors. Each role becomes a new memoir for them. And how can one resist when they have been part of a series as amazing as Game of Thrones? Recently, in an interview with Kelly Clarkson, Emmy winner Hannah Waddingham revealed she was allowed to keep the ‘shame’ bell from Game of Thrones.

I also loved you in Game of Thrones,” the American Idol winner noted. “First of all, I heard that you kept the bell from ‘Shame, Shame.’”

Yes,” Waddingham confirmed.

Clarkson was referring to the famous scene involving Waddingham’s character, Septa Unella, in which she paraded a naked Cersei Lannister (Lena Headey) through the streets of King’s Landing. So, it isn’t surprising that Clarkson called that prop “kind of messed up” to have.

As for Waddingham? It was the perfect send-off gift. “That’s when you know your character is really dead,” she quipped, “when they give you the hero thing. ‘And thank you very much and goodbye.’”

“I feel like I’ve been very lucky that these huge shows have just gone ‘come in and do this.’”

Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon is fast on its track for a release in early 2022, hopefully. We’ve had several recent leaks of the cast filming at various sites in Cornwall, and a lot of them feature Matt Smith in his Daemon Targaryen costume. Smith was already a big star before joining House of The Dragon, having played popular characters like Prince Philip in Netflix’s The Crown and the eleventh incarnation of Doctor Who in the past. He has managed to form strong bonds with his House of The Dragon co-stars, and he wants Rhys Ifans to play the next Doctor Who.

BBC recently announced that the current Doctor Who, Jodie Whittaker, the first female actress to play the role, will be leaving in 2022 after filming a few specials. And Smith has put forward his choice, Rhys Ifans, who is playing Otto Hightower in Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon.

Ge recently told The Hollywood Reporter. “You know who I think would be a brilliant Doctor Who…Rhys Ifans,” said Smith. “Rhys would be sort of cool. I don’t know if we’ve had a Welshman yet. I’m backing Rhys!”

Who do you think would be the best choice to play the next incarnation of Doctor Who? Talk to us in the comments below!
