The Wheel of Time executive producer addresses comparisons with Game of Thrones
Game of Thrones was the show of the century, many regard it as the best show ever made. Hence whenever a new fantasy show is out, comparisons with the HBO epic are bound to take place. There have been several shows that have been called the next Game of Thrones by fans and critics, be it The Witcher, The Last Kingdom, or the recently released Amazon Prime Videos’s The Wheel of Time. The cast and the crew are aware of the comparisons being made between The Wheel of Time and Game of Thrones, it’s hard not to notice when both of them flaunt such a sprawling fanbase. The Wheel of Time executive producer Mike Weber recently talked to Metro.uk addressing these comparisons.
Weber said, “The Thrones comparison is just that that’s the only other giant fantasy series anyone can point to. We are certain of the same scale and level of production quality as Game of Thrones, but I think that’s where the similarities end.”
Stating that The Wheel of Time has its own themes and own unique characters, he added that he believes the “[characters] are much more relatable I think than a lot of the characters in Game of Thrones”.
“I think audiences will be able to really see themselves in one if not many of the characters in our show versus something that felt a little more detached I think for Thrones,” Mike said.
