The Last of Us showrunner on Season 2’s time jump: “We are not doing House of the Dragon leaps”

The HBO adaptation of the Naughty Dog video game The Last of Us successfully completed its first season, and it was a roaring success. It broke a number of records when the season finale aired, surpassing the likes of House of The Dragon in terms of overall viewership. The second season of the show is already on the way, which will begin with a time jump, in tandem with the storyline of the original games.
Will The Last of Us Season 2 have a time jump?
According to the video game, it should have a time skip of 5 years, where Ellie grows up from 14 to 19. Co-showrunner Craig Mazin isn’t really sure how much time will be skipped between the two seasons, but he is sure as hell there won’t be a recasting like House of The Dragon.
Mazin told TheGamer, “I don’t want to pin anything down. Obviously, the time jump is important, to some extent. It reflects the changing nature of Ellie’s relationship with Joel, as she gets older. In the game, as you point out, she goes from 14 to 19, I believe. But no, we are not doing House of the Dragon leaps. Those were very significant leaps in age, and we don’t have that. So, no recasting will occur. Not on my watch.”
What can we expect from The Last of Us Season 2?
Showrunner Craig Mazin teased the reporters about what’s to come in Season 2, “Sometimes it will be different radically and sometimes it will be barely different at all, but it’s going to be different and it will be its own thing. It won’t be exactly like the game. It will be the show that Neil and I want to make. We are making it with Bella.”
When will The Last of Us Season 2 arrive?
On her latest visit to The Jonathan Ross Show, Bella Ramsey talked about the approximate release date of Season 2 of The Last of Us. She/they said, “It will be a while. I think we’ll probably shoot at the end of this year, beginning of next. So it’ll probably be the end of 2024, early 2025.”
