New stills show Oscar Tully as the Lord of Riverrun

House of the Dragon Season 2 has focused heavily on Daemon’s arc in Harrenhal. Many viewers don’t realize that his acquisition of the castle in the Riverlands was a major part of the war strategy in George R. R. Martin’s Fire and Blood. Daemon intended to check the alliance of the riverlords, many of whom were loyal to Rhaenyra but refused to declare their allegiance since they were unsure of the outcome. The Tullys of Riverrun were one such house. Though the characters have changed in the show, House Tully’s reluctance to declare for the Blacks has remained the same.

In the last episode, we heard that the old Lord Grover Tully passed away from an illness. However, the circumstances of his death are highly suspicious, and it’s possible he was poisoned by Alys Rivers and Simon Strong. This leaves Riverrun to the young Lord Oscar Tully, who will likely be more willing to help Daemon in his mission.

With the Brackens’ castle taken and the Lord Paramount of the Trident on his side, Daemon should be able to gain the allegiance of the Riverlands. The stills from Episode 7 also show other major happenings throughout the realm. Most notably we see Rhaenyra confronting Addam of Hull, who now rides Seasmoke.
