Legendary director Steven Spielberg loved The Last of Us Episode 3 “Long, Long Time”
HBO’s The Last of Us was a fresh take on post-apocalyptic horror, emphasizing the human component of the story rather than zombie-infused jumpscares. Each episode proved to be an absolute masterpiece, breaking record after record, but Episode 3 titled “Long, Long Time” has to be the jewel of The Last of Us’ crown. Even legendary director Steven Spielberg was in awe of that episode.
Steven Spielberg sent a letter to The Last of Us showrunner Craig Mazin
In an interview with The Hollywood Reporter, director Peter Hoar revealed how much Spielberg loved “Long, Long Time”. He recalled:
“Well, I didn’t get it directly, but an actual Spielberg letter came to Craig Mazin, the writer of my episode on The Last of Us — the writer of all the episodes. He shared it with myself, Nick Offerman, Murray Bartlett and [cinematographer] Eben Bolter. Basically, a whole group of middle-aged men started squealing because their idol had realized who they were. I think he probably knew who everyone else was, but he didn’t know who I was. And now he’s probably forgotten.”
The third episode of The Last of Us has been nominated for an Emmy
HBO has filed The Last of Us Episode 3 ‘Long, Long Time’ for consideration for an Emmy Nomination in the Outstanding Cinematography For A Single-Camera Series (One Hour) category. Eben Bolter and Ksenia Sereda have been credited with filmography for the episode.
