Sophie Turner reveals Sansa is getting an armour in Game of Thrones Season 8
With us being in the mid of February, Game of Thrones Season 8 seems to be arriving sooner than ever. While we wait for the official trailer which we expect to drop soon, more and more cast interviews have started surfacing. And this time it is Sophie Turner – who has revealed to Entertainment Weekly that her attire is getting a new upgrade in Season 8 with added armour. Read on.
Sansa Stark – the true lady of Winterfell has undergone a rather darker change in her as compared to the other characters we’ve known over the seasons. Of course, the kind of trauma she has suffered especially witnessing the assassination of her father – she has undergone is the biggest propelling factor.
Additionally, this drastic change has also been contributed by her experiences with antagonists and power played like Joffrey, Cersei, Ramsay, and Littlefinger who’ve used and abused her over the last seven seasons. Without diving much deeper in her character arc, now let’s discuss in detail what Sophie told Entertainment Weekly.
“This is the first time I’ve had armour,” she revealed.
This armour according to EW, isn’t a regular armour worn by Knights and Kings but ‘a jet-black ensemble made of thick leather or similar material’. Sophie also said:
“We [had] the idea of it being very protective and she buttons herself up…I wanted her to have a bit of armour and be a bit more warrior like. She’s like the warrior of Winterfell.”
What the second official teaser – Crypts of Winterfell showed us has already created a lot of hype in the fandom – talks about Sansa doing her hair like Daenerys and much more. Yet, we can’t ignore that Sansa has drawn her personality from the women she has learnt a great deal like Cersei Lannister.
Where, she once did her hair in a style similar to Cersei and wore more bright colours, after returning to Winterfell – she now dresses in a darker colour like several other characters. Maybe, we’re up for an armoured Sansa much like Cersei who too has got an attire upgrade in the new season.
We haven’t got any teaser or behind-the-scenes photos that reveal Sansa’s new costume yet if Entertainment Weekly has brought us this news – the smoke obviously comes from some fire around. So, what were your thoughts on Sansa’s costume change in Season 8? Tell us in the comments.
Game Of Thrones Season 8 premieres on 14th April and we are less than 50 days away from the premiere date but so far HBO hasn’t released the trailer and the fans are definitely getting a bit restless. It’s been close to 2 years since season 7 got over the wait has been excruciatingly long. Luckily for the fans, HBO has given a sneak peek of some new footage from Game Of Thrones Season 8.
The tiny footage is part of the video titled “It All Starts Here,” and it gives fans a glimpse of what they can expect from HBO in 2019. For us the center of attention is the Game Of Thrones footage in the video and we can see the Unsullied and Dothraki marching into Winterfell, with Drogon flying above and the Northerners are really scared to see a dragon for the first time in their life, but not Arya.
Arya is awe-struck when she sees Drogon and it will be wonderful to see her meeting Jon Snow for the first time after season 1. Take a look at the video below.
Game of Thrones Season 8 is coming to our television sets in less than two months. While Jason Momoa might have hinted at the red carpet premiere date on April 3, 2019, which is eleven days before the actual airing date of the new season, a new announcement has been made by HBO which reveals the cast of the premiere. Taking into account what actually has been announced by HBO we have two cast members who – much to our surprise may return back for the Final Season of Game of Thrones.
The list announced on the website of HBO gives us detail about which characters will be back during the first episode of season 8 and these include main cast members like Lena Headey, Peter Dinklage, Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, Emilia Clarke, Sophie Turner, Maisie Williams, Peter Dinklage, Gwendoline Christie, and more!
Other stars included in the list are Ben Crompton (Edd Tollett), Kristopher Hivju (Tormund), Joe Dempsie (Gendry), Gemma Whelan (Yara Greyjoy), Daniel Portman (Podrick Payne), and others.
This tells that the first episode of this season will be in fact exactly 60-minutes-long as revealed earlier. But, before we give away the names of those cast members – please proceed with caution in case you want to be spoiler-free for Game of Thrones Season 8.
Talking about the two cast members who will be back in the season 8 premiere episode, pretty much confirming that they are reprising their roles in season include:
Tobias Menzies: The actor who plays the role of the long- lost uncle of the Starks – Edmure Tully who was last seen being used as a bait by the Lannisters and the Freys in Season 6 to win back Riverrun.
Lino Facioli: Lino Francioli – the actor who plays the role of the last heir of House Arryn – Robin Arryn. He was last seen practising archery in Season 6 with Ser Yohn Royce at Vale. He appeared briefly in the scene where the deceased Littlefinger had Vale align with Starks and had gifted him a Gyrfalcon.
This gives us some hope for two major houses surviving the events in Game of Thrones Season 8 unless the showrunners have decided to bring them only to kill them later. Here’s a full list of the cast members who will be a part of Game Of Thrones season 8 premiere:
Yet, we’ve got no news of Michiel Huisman (Daario Naharis) and, sorry Stannis fans – he’s not coming back! What were your thoughts on this great news? Share your thoughts in the comments section down below.
Game of Thrones is a pretty epic show with such a fantastic story and a huge fan base. But, being a true fan of the series isn’t an easy task. While the series is full of violence, nudity, and deaths – some become quite hard to digest.
Talking about the deaths – Ned Stark in Season 1, Catelyn and Robb Stark in the Red Wedding in Season 3, and all thanks to Cersei in the finale of Season 6 – a bunch of characters whom we loved died too… But, recently the showrunners have truly taken it to the next level by revealing that Ser Pounce is actually dead in the show!
Ser Pounce – who was Tommen Baratheon’s favourite pet cat, has now been revealed to be dead by showrunners David Benioff and Dan Weiss who recently spoke to Entertainment Weekly about this. According to Benioff,
“Cersei hated the name ‘Ser Pounce’ so much she could not allow him to survive…So she came up with her most diabolical [execution]. Ser Pounce’s death was so horrible we couldn’t even put it on the air.”
While we only got to see a few seconds of the poor cat in the show, hearing about the gruesome death makes me feel sad. But, why did the Mad Queen did such a cruel act? I too agree with what Hibberd said in his article of Cersei not wanting ‘Ser Pounce prowling around the Red Keep as a reminder of a son she drove to suicide.’ This has also made me take my hatred towards Cersei’s character to a new level.
Though the cat only made a brief appearance in the episode ‘Oathkeeper’ from Season 4, still fans have a chance to meet it in an extended cut of the series. According to Dan Weiss,
“If you buy the super-extended, super-charged Game of Thrones box set that comes out, the death of Ser Pounce will be in there…Just one whole episode devoted to the death of Ser Pounce.”
Yet, as the showrunners describe, filming with Ser Pounce was a difficult task. According to Benioff:
“That cat was really not fun to work with…There’s a reason the phrase ‘like herding cats’ came into existence.”
Dan Weiss, too adds: “Dogs generally do what you ask them to do if they’re smart and well trained…Cats have their own agenda.”
Let’s take a minute to watch the only scene Ser Pounce was a part of. This was a scene from Season 4 when Margaery Tyrell after Joffrey’s death goes to visit Tommen at Night – as her Grandmother Olenna suggests her.
Yet, the cat’s owner – Dean Charles Chapman who played Tommen in the show had his own way of describing the cat’s sudden disappearance. He had earlier revealed to Huffington Post:
‘I don’t know…I suppose there’s a lot of staff around the kingdom to look after him. Hopefully, he didn’t get caught up in the blast. That’d be a tragedy. I like to think he’d also move on with his life and get a girlfriend maybe.”
While we await Game of Thrones Season 8 coming out on April 14, this news may leave some fans heartbroken. Yet, we will soon get over it like other major tragedies in the series. What were your thoughts on Ser Pounce’s death? Share your condolences in the comments.
