Given its impressive list of honors and tributes, Game of Thrones was one of the most popular TV series of the twenty-first century. It was more than just a TV show, it was a way of life for a lot of people, from the cast to the millions of fans. The show’s star Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who played Jaime Lannister, even uses the show to get people to talk to him.

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau uses Game of Thrones as an icebreaker

Coster-Waldau still misses a part of Game of Thrones, and the show still aids him in some ways. On his recent visit to Jimmy Kimmel Live, the host asked him if people still mentioned Game of Thrones to him. He answered, “Not every single day, but it’s just a great icebreaker. You travel around like with this show we did, all over the world. For some reason, people have seen it everywhere.”

“So sometimes, they’ll meet someone, then they’ll look at me, and then you know, for a second, you think you know someone… And then you realize you don’t. But I’m already like, “Hey, it was nice to meet you!” So it’s a great icebreaker.”

Nikolaj Coster-Waldau initially thought Game of Thrones’ premise was absurd

For a long time, Coster-Waldau was so far off from the fantasy genre that he never would have imagined being in a program like Game of Thrones. Furthermore, Coster-Waldau declared in a recent interview that the program’s narrative was “absurd” and that “a fantasy show about a girl who gave birth to three dragons and spoke in a made-up language would 11 years later have won more Emmys than any other show in history.”
