Moving forward with only one prequel series pilot for now, says HBO exec Casey Bloys

Game of Thrones is a pretty successful show, and probably the most successful TV show ever. As we get closer to the final season, HBO has multiple prequel series under development, with a couple being already moving on to production for a pilot. Now, we all know that it’s very tempting to carry on the legacy of such a great show, but it’s a giant source of possible mistakes for HBO, as there’s a lot of ways they could do the prequels wrong, and end up looking like the greedy production house that tried to milk the cash cow and ruined it for everybody. In a recent interview with Entertainment Weekly, Casey Bloys, HBO programming chief, talked about the end of Thrones and the planned prequels. Read on!

As you might know, we recently reported how Casey Bloys revealed the approximate timeframe for airing of Game of Thrones Season 8. In the same interview, he discussed a bit of the Game of Thrones prequel series in development, and Season 8 itself. Starting off, he declined that Game of Thrones Season 8 will be “a season of two-hour episodes”:

“Not two hours? Yes, they are not going to be. Not that I’ve seen, anyway.”

He was asked if we’re going to see a Season 8 trailer, and he replied saying that he doesn’t know the answer to that question. He then talked about what excited him about the finale:

“I think it’s epic. I think fans are going to love it. I think it’s a fitting way for one of the greatest shows in the history of television to go out and that people are going to be very happy. There’s going to be a lot of conversation.”

Now, you know we recently reported about a second prequel that could have also been approved, but Bloys said that it will not go through unless they have tested the waters with the first one, and revealed there’s no second pilot being greenlit:

“The development process was very positive. Other people got busy, things didn’t come together … It’s fair to say we’re excited about this pilot, we’re hoping to shoot it in the first quarter of ’19, I don’t anticipate any movement on any other prequels until we [see what this one is].”

He also said that it was very likely that the prequel would go back to Belfast for shooting. What do you guys think? Looks like we’re moving on with just one pilot! Talk to us in the comments, down below!
