Maisie Williams thought Arya Stark was queer until her love-making scene in Game of Thrones’ final season

Game of Thrones wrapped up filming nearly 3 years ago. Some of the fans were disappointed by the final season, whereas for others it was perfect. The controversial final season also divided the cast into two groups, one supporting the eighth season and the other wanting more. Maisie Williams starred as the many-faced assassin Arya Stark in the acclaimed series. Though she was one of the main protagonists and had one of the best storylines on the show, her love-making scene with Joe Dempsie (Gendry) was looked down upon by many.
While a lot of fans explained the scene as a “becoming an adult” moment for Arya, Maisie had no clue about Arya’s sexual orientation. In a recent interview for Teen Vogue, she revealed, “The first time that I was surprised by Arya, I guess, was probably in the final [season] where she whips off her clothes and sleeps with Gendry. I thought that Arya was queer, you know? So… yeah. That was a surprise.”
Arya and Gendry’s relationship started as a friendship that developed over time into sweet love (though it ended with an unexpected love-making scene). In season 8, we see them parting ways after the explicit love-making scene.
