New opening credits visuals show Prince Jaehaerys’ death

The opening credits for the last two episodes showed the history of House Targaryen from Valyria till the crowning of Aegon II. Episode three adds a striking new image in the form of Prince Jaehaerys with his throat slit. The gruesome scene is depicted by a golden chain passing over Prince Jaehaerys, who lies with his eyes closed.

The golden chain then extends further to become the line on which various ratcatchers are hung. This represents Aegon II’s response to his son’s death by hanging all the ratcatchers in his employ.

Interestingly, the visual of Prince Aemond and Vhagar killing Lucerys is absent from the tapestry in this episode. This may imply that the opening credits will be updated every two episodes to show a significant event during the war.
