House of the Dragon, the popular prequel to Game of Thrones, is set to return to Cáceres, Spain for its third season. The historic town of Cáceres, known for its fortified palaces, Renaissance architecture, and cobbled streets, will again serve as a backdrop for the series. Contracts with local institutions are in place for filming to begin in early 2025, although exact dates are yet to be confirmed.

House of the Dragon to return to Cáceres for Season 3

The news website Hoy has reported that House of the Dragon will return to Cáceres in Spain to film Season 3.

The tweet says “Only for TODAY subscribers | HBO begins contacts to return to Cáceres starting next fall | Today

Cáceres, a city with just under 100,000 residents, is a treasure trove of history and architectural marvels. Its Gothic, Renaissance, and ancient Roman structures, combined with the authentic medieval setting of the old town, make it a perfect match for the world of Westeros. It is also a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

The Plaza de Santa Maria, with its 15th-century Gothic cathedral, has previously been used for filming. As House of the Dragon returns to Cáceres for its third season, the city’s unique features will again be showcased to a global audience. Cáceres was also a significant location for the sixth season of Game of Thrones.
