George R. R. Martin says “Rhaenyra the Cruel” episode is in contention with the best Game of Thrones episodes
George R. R. Martin agrees with fans’ love for “Rhaenyra the Cruel.”
One of the best things about George R.R. Martin is how connected he is with his fandom. They don’t just love his fictional worlds and intricate stories but also appreciate him for his candor.
In his most recent Not a Blog post, the author talks about watching the first two episodes of House of the Dragon season 2 and the changes he noticed as compared to the source material. He even said that he thinks that “Rhaenyra the Cruel” episode matches up to the Game of Thrones episodes.
George R.R. Martin appreciates House of the Dragon directors
Martin started his blog post with a heartfelt appreciation for the directors who helmed the first two episodes of House of the Dragon.
“I also got a sneak peek at the first two episodes of season 2: “A Son for A Son” and “Rhaenyra the Cruel.” What a great way to start the season. The directing was superb. GAME OF THRONES veteran Alan Taylor directed the first episode, and Clare Kilner the second. Both of them did a magnificent job.”
The showrunners of House of the Dragon do deserve such appreciation as the work that goes into making each episode stand out is massive. Even though Martin pointed out that he does not like it when someone makes changes to his work, he commended the showrunners for their unique perspective.

George R.R. Martin praises the episode Rhaenyra the Cruel
The second episode of House of the Dragon season 2 took fans by surprise. The episode featured some intriguing plot arcs that nobody expected. From the royal funeral to Criston Cole claiming the Hand of the King title, the episode was one adventurous ride. Martin agrees with fans as he mentioned,
“Rhaenyra the Cruel” has been getting great reviews, for the most part. A lot of the fans are proclaiming it the best episode of HotD, and some are even ranking it higher than the best episodes of GAME OF THRONES. I can hardly be objective about these things, but I would certainly say it deserves to be in contention.”
This just seems to be the beginning of the scale at which House of the Dragon season 2 is establishing itself. With the epic Dance of the Dragon on the verge, the Greens and Blacks are going to wreak havoc in the cutthroat world of Westeros.
