George R. R. Martin says Cargyllbowl was right up there with Oberyn vs The Mountain’s fight in Game of Thrones
George R.R. Martin is all praises for House of the Dragon cast and crew.
George R. R. Martin recently posted a candid review of House of the Dragon Season 2 episodes to date to his Not a Blog. The author of the Fire and Blood book on which the show is based is not afraid to express his take on what the showrunners did splendidly and what they could have done better.
George R.R. Martin compares Cargyllbowl to the Mountain vs Oberyn fight
The epic Cargyllbowl aka the fight between the Cargyll twins in House of the Dragon season 2 is just a glimpse into the world of pain and loss that’s about to come. Presented with such emotion and bravery, the climactic fight between two loving brothers moved the masses to tears. They had grown up together and loved each other dearly. But a squabble among the royals proved to crack their relationship in the middle and left them stranded on two opposite sides. Martin commended the Cargyllbowl portrayal in his latest blog and said,
“The Tittensor twins were terrific as the Kingsuard twins, and their climactic swordfight is right up there with the Mountain and the Red Viper of Dorne, and Brienne’s fight with Jaime Lannister.”

Martin appreciates the acting prowess of all regulars
The author expressed his appreciation for all the actors in the show as he said, “Emma d’Arcy has only one line in “A Son for a Son,” but she does so much with her eyes and her face that she dominates the episode; her grief for her slain son is palpable. Tom Glynn-Carney brings Aegon alive in ways we have not seen before; he’s more than a villain here, he shows us the king’s rage, his pain, his fears and doubts. Rhys Ifans has been splendid as Otto Hightower every time he has been on screen, but he exceeded himself in “Rhaenyra the Cruel.” Matt Smith, Olivia Cooke, Fabien Frankel, Eve Best, and the other regulars were wonderful as well.”
Consequently, it appears that Martin is extremely happy with how the showrunners are tackling the source material of House of the Dragon. Moreover, he is appreciative of the changes they are making to leave an indelible impact on the fans. The cast, the crew, and the expanded storylines are all coming together wonderfully for House of the Dragon.
