George R. R. Martin is releasing a new Game of Thrones story in the upcoming book 'The Book of Swords'

Game of Thrones is now in waiting for Season 7, and we’re still over two months away from it premiering. In the meantime, George R. R. Martin, the author of A Song of Ice and Fire series, on which the TV show is based, is yet to come out with the sixth book. The show has already surpassed the storyline of the books, and will move even further forward with Season 7. George R. R. Martin has said that the next book, The Winds of Winter might come out later this year, but nothing is set in stone. In the meantime, a new story from George will be published in The Book of Swords. The Book of Swords is an anthology collection which is due for release this year. Among the stories featuring in the book, will be a new story from the history of Westeros, coming from George. Penguin Random House has released the cover of the book. Check it out below :

Titled The Sons of the Dragon, the story, as you might have guessed, is about the Targaryens; specifically Aenys I Targaryen, a king who was kind and wise, and Maegor the Cruel, who was the opposite. They were the second and third Targaryen kings to sit on the Iron Throne, succeeding their father, Aegon the Conqueror.

George has said that this story will be less of a narrative, and more of history. We’re excited to find out what the story will be like. The story has also been said to come from the unusued bits from George’s work on The World of Ice and Fire, which means that it won’t really affect the release date of The Winds of Winter.
