Game of Thrones star Maisie Williams calls for a ban on Dolphin shows

A badass on screen, a badass in real life. Maisie Williams, who plays Arya Stark on Game of Thrones, has always been a fan favorite, not only because of her character but her real life persona. We have all seen what Arya has become, and how far she has come, despite all the setbacks, and Maisie seems to be matching the gusto of her character. the 19-year-old star has now called for a ban on Dolphin shows. According to a report by The Hollywood Reporter, Maisie has appealed to people to not buy tickets to dolphin shows and to commercial aquariums release their dolphins, as the global ambassador for Ric O’Barry’s Dolphin Project, which aims at ending dolphin captivity. On a Skype call from Taiji, Japan, a town known for its dolphin shows, Maisie said :

“These animals travel the ocean. That’s what they explore daily. No tank will be big enough. No tank will ever be deep enough, ever be exciting enough.”

BREAKING NEWS TOKYO (AP) — “Game of Thrones” star @Maisie_Williams wants everyone to stop buying tickets to marine shows. She says it’s the best way to stop the capture and killings of dolphins in Japan. Williams spoke Friday in the small Japanese town of Taiji, made famous in “The Cove,” a 2009 Oscar-winning film that documented the dolphin hunt and starred Ric O’Barry, the dolphin trainer for the “Flipper” TV series. Williams is the latest celebrity trying to save dolphins. Others include Brian May of Queen, Sting and Daryl Hannah. She hopes her influence on social media, with 4 million Instagram followers, will help educate people about Taiji, including Japanese. Williams, global ambassador for O’Barry’s Dolphin Project campaign, says only a handful of Taiji fishermen are benefiting from the practice. UPDATED ARTICLE ON OUR FACEBOOK PAGE

She also talked about how the practice doesn’t really benefit many fishers of Taiji. Clarifying her stand, she said:

“It’s not an attack on Japan at all, or on Taiji, or the people of Taiji. I want to say, honestly, hand on heart, that this is not an attack on anyone in specific.”

Maisie also explained why she took up this cause, particularly :

“It was something that just struck a chord in my heart. And I’m a firm believer that, if there is something that you really want to stand up and fight for, then you should. And with everyone doing their own little bit for what they believe in, hopefully together we can make the world a better place.”
