Emily Carey (Alicent) says shared love for RuPaul’s Drag Race helped her bond with Paddy Considine (Viserys)
Emily Carey, who plays Alicent on House of the Dragon, mentioned in an interview that she and Paddy Considine, who plays King Viserys, bonded over RuPaul’s Drag Race before they had to film any of their scenes together. She said that it was nice to have that shared interest between them because it helped make the scenes more comfortable and fun to film House of the Dragon’s latest episode.
In House of the Dragon’s latest episode, Alicent and King Viserys form a relationship. Later on, Viserys says that he wants to marry Alicent after the death of his previous wife. This news upsets Rhaenyra Targaryen.
The 19-year-old actress explained how the two bonded:
“Paddy is a massive ‘Drag Race’ fan, and so am I. So I’d come into set and be like, ‘Hey, Paddy, did you watch the new episode of All Stars?’ He’d be like, ‘Oh my God, yes! Let’s talk about it.’ And so that’s how we’d start every morning.”
The actress also expressed that she wants to appear in RuPaul’s Drag Race:
“I’ve asked. We’re talking about it. Don’t you worry, I’m going to get there. I’m going to make it happen,” Carey added. “Honestly, I think I’d just cry the whole time. I think I would just sob the entire time. I grew up on that show. I love ‘Drag Race,’ and I love drag as a performance art. I think it’s beautiful.”
