Daemon’s “Dark Sister”: Baela will use father’s sword in House of the Dragon Season 2, reveals Bethany Antonia
The level of detail and labor-intensive setup and prop design that goes into each Game of Thrones production are among its greatest features. The Dark Sister is perhaps one of the most well-known Valyrian steel swords ever, right up there with Blackfyre as a weapon that witnessed the establishment of Targaryen dominance in Westeros. And it will be in the hands of a new wielder in Season 2, at least for a few scenes.
Baela to wield the Dark Sister in House of the Dragon Season 2
Dark Sister is one of the ancestral Valyrian steel swords of House Targaryen, and it is an honor to wield it. The current possessor of the sword in House of the Dragon is Daemon Targaryen. But it seems like the sword will pass on to his daughter Baela, at least for a few scenes, as revealed by Bethany Antonia in her interview with Vestalmag:
“There was a moment on set when I was presented with my character’s weapon, the Valyrian steel sword Dark Sister. It was a thrilling experience and stands out as one of the coolest days I’ve had on set.”
The storyline in Season 2 will differ from the books
Antonia also hinted that the storyline in Season 2 will be significantly altered from the one in the books, especially when it comes to children. The actor revealed:
“While the overall storyline remains largely consistent, the showrunners have executed a brilliant adaptation by involving the children of the dance much earlier. For example, my character doesn’t get involved in the Dance of the Dragons until later in the books. In the books, Baela [Targaryen] is kind of hiding out at Dragonstone and things are happening around her.
In the show, however, the screenwriters had the children involved from the start, with the onset of war prompting the children to prepare for battle right from the beginning. This early involvement allows for new narrative avenues, enabling the incorporation of the characters into scenarios not found in the original books. It’s an exciting development that expands our characters’ roles beyond the material in the books.”
