The new images from the calendar have been released, showcasing stunning artworks of various parts of Westeros as imagined by George R. R. Martin. These illustrations by Eddie Mendoza bring Martin’s vision to life, providing a different perspective compared to the HBO shows. It’s fascinating to see how Mendoza’s art captures the essence of Martin’s world.
The Bridge of Skulls
One of the newly released images depicts the Bridge of Skulls, which spans the Gorge at the east end of the Wall. In the books, the Night’s Watch fight against against the wildlings here in a fierce battle.
The Citadel of Dragonstone
Another stunning image features the citadel of Dragonstone. Shaped from stone to resemble dragons, this depiction differs from its portrayal in Game of Thrones and House of the Dragon. Valyrians built Dragonstone using arcane arts, fire, and sorcery, shaping it with dragonflame to create its dragon-like appearance.
The Water Gardens of Dorne
The calendar also includes an illustration of the palatial Water Gardens of Dorne. The Prince of Dorne built these gardens as a gift for his wife, Princess Daenerys Targaryen, sister to King Daeron the Good. Located on a beach next to the Summer Sea, the Water Gardens serve as a private retreat for House Martell. Children from all over Dorne come to play and foster in these beautiful surroundings.
Starfall, the Castle of House Dayne
The fourth image released shows Starfall, the Castle of House Dayne. The castle sits in the western Red Mountains on an island in the Torentine river, where it flows into the Summer Sea. Starfall includes a tower called the Palestone Sword. Legend says the first Dayne built Starfall where he found a magic stone after following a shooting star.
After Robert’s Rebellion, Ser Arthur Dayne, the Sword of the Morning, died at the Tower of Joy. When Eddard Stark returned Arthur’s sword, Dawn, to Starfall, Arthur’s sister Ashara threw herself from the Palestone Sword tower.
