The second season of House of the Dragon ends with shocking twists, explosive moments, and a setup for future conflict. The series finale leaves fans divided with a cliffhanger. Some have praised the show’s writing, while others feel it leaves too many questions unanswered.

Tyland negotiates with the Triarchy

The Greens need to break the Velaryon blockade in the Narrow Sea, so they send Tyland Lannister to negotiate with the Triarchy of the Free Cities. The Triarchy agrees to lend their fleet in exchange for control of the Stepstones.

Tyland reluctantly accepts the deal. As part of the agreement, the Triarchy’s admiral, Sharako Lohar, demands Tyland win a wrestling match. Despite a rough start, Tyland manages to impress Lohar and secure the fleet’s support.

Daemon pledges allegiance to Rhaenyra

Alys Rivers awakens Daemon at night and takes him to the weirwood in the godswood. After touching it, he sees visions of White Walkers, Daenerys Targaryen, and Rhaenyra on the Iron Throne. Disturbed by these visions, Daemon meets Ser Alfred Broome the next day, who suggests they need a strong leader.

Meanwhile, Rhaenyra arrives at Harrenhal, summoned by Ser Simon Strong, who suspects Daemon might betray her. Realizing Rhaenyra’s destiny to rule, Daemon pledges his allegiance to her at Harrenhal, declaring, “We fight for our queen.”

Alicent meets Rhaenyra at Dragonstone

Alicent travels to Dragonstone to meet Rhaenyra and urges her to end the war. Rhaenyra insists it is too late. Alicent explains she crowned Aegon because she believed it was what Viserys wanted.

She suggests they escape the war together, but Rhaenyra refuses, stating her place is at Dragonstone. However, Rhaenyra allows Alicent to leave unharmed.

The armies of the realm amassing

As the episode concludes, Tyland sets sail with Sharako Lohar and the Triarchy’s fleet. Jason Lannister gathers his forces at the Golden Tooth. The Dragonseeds prepare for battle, and the Winter Wolves march towards the Riverlands.

The Hightower army advances from Oldtown, with Prince Daeron flying on Tessarion. The Velaryon fleet readies for battle, setting the stage for a naval clash in the Battle of the Gullet next season.

Rhaena encounters Sheepstealer

Rhaena sneaks away from the group, escorting Princes Aegon and Viserys to the ship Gay Abandon, destined for Pentos. She tracks the dragon Sheepstealer, surviving on stream water. The show’s final scene reveals Rhaena finally encountering the dragon.

It remains to be seen if she will claim Sheepstealer. In the book, a girl named Nettles tames Sheepstealer by feeding it sheep. With her Valyrian blood, Rhaena might find it easier to bond with the dragon, possibly replacing Nettles’ role in the show.
