Bella Ramsey questions the importance of pronouns: “Why can’t I just be Bella Ramsey?”
The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey made news recently when they were introduced as Ellie on the show. Despite having a brief appearance on HBO’s Game of Thrones, they won over millions of hearts by playing the young and brave Lyanna Mormont. However, the actor has been in the news for another reason, their gender identity, and they are not fond of that.
Bella Ramsey says their pronouns are “the least” interesting thing about them
Though paparazzi have been really interested in this recent revelation, Ramsey finds that annoying. In an interview with The Times, where it was specified beforehand to address the actor as they/them, Ramsey said, “You don’t need to say all of that. Why can’t I just be Bella Ramsey?”
Ramsey further reiterated that “it has been so dominating [in media coverage] and it’s one of the least interesting things to talk about.”
Bella Ramsey knew nothing about drug addiction before their role on BBC’s Time
Ramsey recently played Kelsey, a young pregnant woman who is addicted to heroin on the prison drama, Time. They recalled, “I knew nothing about drug misuse so I was quite naïve coming into it.”
They spoke with a recovering addict who had served multiple sentences for addiction at a British women’s prison in order to gain insight into the realities of addiction and incarceration. “She had children she had to leave behind, and when she came out they were her reason for getting clean,” Ramsey said. “The way she spoke about addiction, that every cell of your body needs the hit — that really helped [bring authenticity to the role.]”
