Interview
Bella Ramsey hated “being patronized” on the set of Game of Thrones as a child actor
Despite having a brief appearance, Bella Ramsey, who played the brave and impressionable Lyanna Mormont on the HBO fantasy series Game of Thrones, captured the hearts of millions of fans. The opportunity to take on yet another thrilling part in the HBO video game adaptation of The Last of Us brought them even more fame. However, there was one thing Ramsey absolutely hated during their time on Game of Thrones, and it is not what you might think.
Bella Ramsey did not like being treated as a child
Game of Thrones was a show that was particularly not for children. This was the reason why the showrunners had to be very careful while employing child actors, like Ramsey. In a recent interview with The Independent, they said:
“Being a kid actor, I didn’t like the separation. The thing I hated the most was being patronised. I didn’t like the fact that I could only be on set for a certain amount of time, and had to go and do tutoring. I get why the hours protections for child actors are phenomenally important – but I hated feeling like I was lesser or separate from the adult cast.”
Bella Ramsey is more comfortable with older people
Ramsey also reiterated that they are more comfortable working with older actors, as evident from their bond with Pedro Pascal in The Last of Us. They said, “I wasn’t intimidated by going onto a set with a load of people twice, three times my age. As I’ve grown up, I’ve learnt that I have autonomy to stand up for myself and for other younger people that I work with now. I want to enable them to advocate for themselves in the way that people older than me taught me to advocate for myself!”
