Alicent Hightower and Margaery Tyrell are related, here’s how
Dowager Queen Alicent Hightower is one of the leading ladies of the show House of the Dragon. The show is a prequel spinoff of the legendary Game of Thrones series. One of the most liked characters was Queen Margaery Tyrell. Most fans would agree that among all the characters, she was the most suitable to be the Queen of the Seven Kingdoms. But unfortunately, she could not survive Cersei Lannister. Turns out Margaery is a distant descendant of Alicent.
Another one: House of the Dragon’s Lady Redwyne could be Olenna Tyrell’s ancestor
Alicent and her father Ser Otto Hightower come from House Hightower, who rule over Oldtown; situated pretty close to House Tyrell’s castle Highgarden. Margaery is not directly related to Alicent but instead a descendant of her cousin. Ser Otto Hightower’s direct lineage ended as his great-grandchildren never had any kids of their own. Otto, however, was the second son. His elder brother, Lord Hobert Hightower continued the Hightower line. A few generations down the line, Lady Alerie Hightower marries Lord Mace Tyrell, and gives birth to Loras, Garlen, Willas, and Margaery Tyrell.
Margaery was born exactly 150 years after Alicent died. This makes Alicent her great-great-great-aunt, as far as we can presume. It isn’t common to know if you share traits with an ancestor who lived 200 years ago. But, both women are smart and cunning, and that’s where the similarities end. Margaery is a composed woman who played the Game of Thrones as well as she could. Alicent on the other hand is riddled with paranoia and trust issues, thanks to her father.
Would Queen Margaery support the Greens if she were in House of the Dragon? Let us know what you think, on our discord server.
