House of the Dragon is back for season 2 – with it, more plotting and power-grabbing. One of the highlights in Episode 2 of the new Season was Daemon Targaryen, the ambitious ‘Rogue Prince’. However, contrary to popular belief, Matt Smith thinks that Daemon isn’t one of the people vying for power.

In the latest House of the Dragon episode, viewers witness a heated argument between Rhaenyra and Daemon. This confrontation reveals a significant breakdown of trust between the two characters.

Rhaenyra accuses Daemon of being untrustworthy, which profoundly affects him. In an exclusive interview with Digital Spy, Matt Smith shared his perspective on this dynamic.

Smith shared his comments on that explosive argument between Daemon and Rhaenyra, saying:

“I think the idea that she doesn’t trust him feels quite alien to him, because I think he feels like he’s the most trustworthy person in the world for her. Genuinely. So I think that he’s probably quite, in his Daemon-ness quite, hurt by that.”

Contrary to popular belief, Matt Smith contends that a desire for power does not drive Daemon Targaryen. Regarding this, Matt Smith said:

“People often ask me, ‘Is Daemon after power?’ and I’ve never thought he is. I think he’s more interested and addicted to being a sort of agent of chaos, and the discourse that he can create. The ripples that he can manifest further down the line.”
