Fans are disappointed with the Blood and Cheese scene from House of the Dragon Season 2 premiere
Blood and Cheese should’ve been more brutal, say fans.
The debut of the second season of House of the Dragon was just as fans expected. The Targaryen Civil War from George R.R. Martin‘s Fire and Blood serves as the inspiration for a number of this season’s captivating and unexpected themes. The most horrifying of them all is the one concerning Prince Daemon Targaryen’s hired assassins, Blood and Cheese. In the second season premiere of House of the Dragon, there was a twist, which many fans didn’t like much.
The Blood and Cheese arc of House of the Dragon is not the same as Fire & Blood
We now know from both the book and the TV show that Daemon plans to get revenge on the Greens by using ratcatcher Cheese and sellsword Blood. This is symbolized by the title of the first episode, “A Son for a Son.” But Aemond was the son that Daemon was referring to.
But instead of finding Aemond, Blood and Cheese happen to stumble across Helaena and her kids. Though the program seems to hint that these were maybe Daemon’s secondary instructions, there is a distinct expression on Daemon’s face when Blood and Cheese ask him what to do if they can’t find Aemond.
However, as you can see in Game of Thrones’ lore and histories video, in Fire & Blood, the assassin duo was specifically instructed to kill one of Aegon’s children. Moreover, Healaena’s interaction with them was different, she tried to protect Jaehaerys by first offering herself and then her younger son, Maelor. The result, however, remains the same.

Fans annoyed by House of the Dragon’s retelling of Blood and Cheese arc
Before the premiere of House of the Dragon Season 2 aired, a lot of fans were comparing the Blood and Cheese storyline with the infamous Red Wedding. However, quite a few were left disappointed as it tasted underwhelming to them.
A few of them wrote on X:
blood and cheese was such a dissapointing scene, i didnt expect as much as some but i expected it to be at least as good as the animation but no it was kinda boring and very emotionless for me at least

idgaf about teams it just felt totally incoherent and blood and cheese fell flat in the worst way by cutting the scene down to rely solely on phias performance with minimal dialogue and then undercutting phias performance with THAT ending. terrible but gets 4/10 for emma

Sara Heiss said it would be her version of blood and cheese, so let's not be surprised that it's such a piece of! We didn't expect gore, but still it was too simple and incomprehensible.

"blood & cheese should have been more gruesome" honestly. i'm gonna hold your hand when i say this. fictional or not, you should not want to visibly see a child be murdered as brutally as possible.
