Tom Glynn-Carney (Aegon II) subtly teases a torture scene from House of the Dragon Season 2

House of the Dragon season 2 is going to be a thrilling fest of battles and bloodshed. The actors are excited to see their characters take on newer challenges and narratives in the upcoming season.

The latest promo for House of the Dragon season 2 takes us through Tom Glynn-Carney’s experience as he understood the nuances of his character Aegon II.

Tom Glynn-Carney’s Aegon II struggles with newfound responsibility

Aegon II was never made to sit on the Iron Throne. He has been a carefree man who accomplished everything with minimal effort. So, when the responsibilities of the monarchy fall on him after his father’s death, he has no choice but to step up.

With the help of his mother Alicent Hightower and younger brother Aemond Targaryen who takes care of the battlefield, Aegon II tries to keep everything together. However, he is intimidated and a bit threatened by his opponent and half-sister Rhaenyra. While struggling with the role of being a King, Aegon II is also battling a fierce threat to his power.

Carney agrees that it’s a very dangerous thing for Aegon II to have all that power and be King. He is not fully ready for that sort of power and the consequences of his actions are dire. As days pass by, Aegon II grows more confident in his new skin as King of the realm and believes that he is truly worthy of all that power.

Spoiler Alert: Promo hints at a scene of torture

In the book, Prince Lucerys Velaryon was killed by Prince Aemond early in the conflict. This happens when Lucerys is trying to convert Storm’s End’s Lord, Borros Baratheon, to his mother’s side. Hence, Aegon throws a grand feast to greet his brother, who returns after killing Lucerys. However, Queen and her father were worried about the severity of Aemond’s behavior.

Prince Daemon acted to get revenge on Aegon. Prince Jaehaerys, Aegon’s heir, was killed in the Red Keep by Blood and Cheese, Daemon’s spymaster Mysaria’s operatives. Queen Helaena Targaryen, his sister-wife, rapidly descended into melancholy and insanity as a result of her part in the circumstances surrounding Jaehaerys’s passing. Consequently, Cheese had disappeared, but Blood had been apprehended and killed by torture.

The latest promo hints at this very scene as Aegon II is seen holding a weapon. Moreover, the setting of the scene appears to be down in the dungeons with an unknown actor sitting on his knees. The scene is going to be a powerful symbol of Aegon’s anger and rage that ultimately fuel the fire of his ambition.
