Rickon might’ve survived if he had zig-zagged, archery experts agree
Fans were dumbfounded by the enormous scale of the Battle of the Bastards, which took place in Season 6 of Game of Thrones. As Ramsay gained the upper hand in the conflict and nearly defeated Jon Snow and his army with a superior battle plan, viewers were left gasping for air. In order to catch Jon Snow in his trap and dismantle his combat plan, Ramsay made sure to utilize Rickon Stark as bait. However, even archery experts agree that Rickon had a better chance of surviving if he had zigzagged, as suggested by fans on numerous occasions.
Experts rate the Battle of the Bastards really high for realism
In a video by Insider, archery expert Grizzly Jim examined war sequences from a number of films and TV shows, including Battle of the Bastards from Game of Thrones. He gave the scene a 9 out of 10, and said:
“Medieval longbow archers could be pretty accurate. The bow looked like it had what they call pony limbs, where you’ve got the basic bow and then you’d have another set of limbs that come off the front, so that limb is attached to that limb and that limb is attached to that limb, and that gives you way more power. So it would be perfect for that kind of, you know, killing dudes running away kind of archery.”
Rickon should’ve zigzagged
One of the burning theories in the Game of Thrones fan community is that Rickon would have surely survived if he had only zigzagged, given Ramsay wasn’t that skilled of an archer. Jim agreed with the theory as well, and said, “I’d be zigging and zagging. I’d be serpentin-ing.”
