House of the Dragon showrunner on why they used the Catspaw dagger from Game of Thrones

One of the best features of House of The Dragon is its shared elements with its predecessor, Game of Thrones, while still being a separate show of its own. One of the most significant elements and perhaps the most recognizable prop, Aegon the Conqueror’s dagger, was the same one Arya used in Game of Thrones to kill the Night King. House of the Dragon showrunner Ryan Condal explains why it was done so.

Why House of the Dragon included the Catspaw dagger?

In a new featurette released by Max, showrunner Condal explains the importance of the Catspaw dagger, “The idea was to have some kind of legacy artifact that ties the original show to the new one. So this idea that Aegon who imbued his secret in this Valyrian steel dagger, the dagger that ends up passing through hand after hand after hand, that’s actually the very thing that ends the war.”

Aegon’s Dagger is on display at The Game of Thrones Studio Tour

In Northern Ireland, at the Game of Thrones Studio Tour, you can get a closer look at Aegon’s dagger. The original Catspaw dagger is on exhibit during the Studio Tour along with authentic sets, costumes, and props. Other recognizable Game of Thrones weapons on display at the Studio Tour include Brienne of Tarth’s Oathkeeper sword, King Joffrey Baratheon’s crossbow, and Jon Snow’s Longclaw sword.
