Interview
The Last of Us star Bella Ramsey is uncomfortable with Emmy categories being divided only into two genders
Even though their involvement in the HBO fantasy drama Game of Thrones was brief, Bella Ramsey stole millions of fans’ hearts as the young and valiant Lyanna Mormont. They have landed yet another action-packed role in HBO’s video game adaption The Last of Us, and they’re appreciative of the opportunity. They are in the run to win their first Emmy Award (possibly), but they do have some issues with the system.
Emmy categories make Bella Ramsey uncomfortable
In a quick chat with Vanity Fair, Ramsey said, “The categories at the moment feel extremely gendered with the language around them. I don’t want the limitations in terms of the language in the categories to be a reason that non-binary actors like me can’t be celebrated… And it can open up a conversation about how it feels – as long as I’m aware of the fact that it’s not ideal, but also that finding alternatives is really complex.”
The non-binary deserve equal treatment
Ramsey went on to advocate for the non-binary, “For [non-binary people] to have a say and be part of those discussions and those conversations, that’s really important… I just hope there’s more space for non-binary people to be recognized within [future] categories.”
Filming The Last of Us was the ‘Best Year’ of their life
Recently, Ramsey opened up about filming The Last of Us in an interview Flip Your Wig, they said, “I was so excited about it. It was the best year of my life filming it. And I’m just so happy it’s out and people are watching it, and I’m excited for people to see the rest of it.”
