The reason behind Miguel Sapochnik leaving House of The Dragon finally revealed
Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon has been a tremendous success so far thanks to the collective efforts of its amazing team. However, in a shocking turn of events, the most anticipated show of 2022 lost one of its foundational pillars, right after the show was renewed for a second season. House of The Dragon co-showrunner Miguel Sapochnik left the team in August, while another Game of Thrones vet Alan Taylor is the newest addition to the crew.
Looking back at the news, there were several speculations as to why the famed Battle of Bastards director left the highly successful prequel. The reason why Sapochnik left is finally out in the open, thanks to a recent report by Puck News. According to the news, he departed the show following a ‘protracted standoff’ regarding the involvement of his wife Alexis Raben as a producer on the show for season 2. Raben was a credited producer on the first season of the show, and also made appearances in a handful of episodes as Talia, but when Sapochnik made the request to include her as a producer on the team for Season 2, HBO is believed to have declined the request due to her inexperience.
HBO brought on a mediator to try and resolve the situation with Sapochnik, but it did not work out and he made the decision to stick with his wife, departing the show and joining CAA along with his wife.
