George R.R. Martin hasn’t played Elden Ring yet, says he’s busy writing Winds of Winter
Game of Thrones writer George R. R. Martin is one of the most accomplished novelists today, with several best-selling books under his belt. The veteran author is already associated with a bunch of new shows, including Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon. Martin has also made his mark in the gaming industry with the critically acclaimed video game Elden Ring which was quite recently one of the most-played gaming titles on various platforms. Though contributing to the video game’s world-building quite significantly, Martin himself hasn’t touched the game yet.
It isn’t that Martin isn’t a fan of video games, he is. But there is something else that’s keeping him busy. The Game of Thrones author in an episode of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert said, “I have not played it [Elden Ring], because people seem to want this Winds of Winter book.”
He added, “I have, unfortunately, a totally addictive personality. I did play video games a long, long time ago, I played games like Railroad Tycoon, Master of Orion, and Homeworld and I would get sucked into it. Weeks, months would go by and I’d be sitting there in my red flannel bathrobe just saying ‘one more game, one more game.’ I can’t, I gotta go cold turkey on this, this is gonna kill me here.”
