HBO’s new video shows older versions of Rhaenyra and Laenor from episode 6
After episode 5 of the first season of House of the Dragon, it’s time for the adults to take over the reins. Episode 6 will be the first episode where we meet the older Rhaenyra Targaryen, Alicent Hightower, and Laenor Velaryon. The time jump will age the characters by almost a decade. So we can assume the baby Rhaenyra is holding is her third child, Joffrey Velaryon, named after Laenor’s lover, who died in episode 5.
This clip shows a curious Laenor (John Macmillan) accompanying Princess Rhaenyra (Emma D’Arcy). Rhaenyra looks like she gave birth not too long ago, as she seems weak. The Princess is already suffering from the pains of childbirth when she is summoned with her child by Queen Alicent. The Queen seems to like making Rhaenyra’s life more difficult. Clearly, their friendship is long gone. Laenor tries to engage his wife in small talk, but she is, understandably, least interested.
Suddenly, at the start of the stairs, she feels a sudden pain but still urges herself and her husband to keep walking. A storm is brewing between Alicent and Rhaenyra as they are seen only having curt interactions in the teaser. This scene further pushes the narrative that neither one cares about the other by this point. Rhaenyra only pays attention to Alicent’s summons because she is still the queen.
Emma D’Arcy flawlessly plays Rhaenyra, and we can’t wait to see more of the new cast. We will also see the older Laena Velaryon (Nanna Blondell) and her kids, with many new faces like Aegon II, Aemond, and more. Which new and grown-up character are you most excited to see?
