Eve Best explains how House of The Dragon is “about the disillusionment of the patriarchy”

Game of Thrones fans are all hyped up about the upcoming prequel House of The Dragon. The official trailer received plenty of positive views, and the recent World Premiere was attended and praised by some of the most renowned critics. The main storyline will be revolving around the show’s two female lead characters, Princess Rhaenyra Targaryen and Queen Alicent Hightower, both of whom desire to sit on the Iron Throne. But before their arrival on the screen, there was another story, of A Queen Who Never Was.
Rhaenyra Targaryen’s aunt, Princess Rhaenys was once in line for succession to the Iron Throne. Eve Best, who will be portraying the role in House of The Dragon, recently talked to Entertainment Weekly and explained how patriarchy plays an important role in House of The Dragon.
Best said, “Effectively, it’s about the disillusionment of the patriarchy, of this system that has been going and going for hundreds and hundreds of years. Rhaenys’ relationship with Rhaenyra is very complicated. There’s an element of mentorship. There’s also an element of other things that go along with that, potentially friendship or sympathy. At the same time, there’s all kinds of other, much darker things. Especially at the beginning, I think Rhaenys feels that [Rhaenyra] needs some taking-down a peg or two.”
How do you think the dynamics of the relationship between Rhaaenyra and Rhaenys will play out in House of The Dragon? Tell us in the comments below!
