Duolingo announces official partnership with HBO Max in preparation for House of The Dragon
Valyrian is one of the most famous fictional languages in the world, made even more popular by HBO’s Game of Thrones TV series. The show’s widespread acclaim prompted many fans to try and learn the dialect, with phrases like “Valar Morghulis” and “Valar Dohaeris” becoming a part of the pop culture. Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon is right around the corner, and it’s high time for the fans to brush up their skills in Valyrian in preparation for a return to the land of Westeros. And the best and easiest way to do so is by signing up for a Valyrian course in Duolingo, the world’s #1 language learning platform.
Quite recently, Duolingo and HBO Max signed up an official partnership for the upcoming HBO Original House of the Dragon. Duolingo has previously provided courses in High Valyrian, which was developed in partnership with David J. Peterson, the linguist behind several beloved fictional tongues, including High Valyrian and Dothraki. Peterson told Global News Wire:
“I am thrilled for new and old fans of the “Game of Thrones” series to experience the High Valyrian language. It’s been a pleasure to revisit the world of Westeros for “House of the Dragon” and work with the team at Duolingo to breathe new life into this course.”
Gearing up for House of The Dragon, Duolingo has updated the course working in sync with Peterson, and it now includes over 150 new words and more than 700 new sentences. But wait, there’s more…
In celebration of the new partnership, a marketing campaign has been rolled out with billboards teasing new phrases from the highly awaited course, including a space in Times Square. Also, Duo the Owl, Duolingo’s mascot, will make a special appearance at the San Diego Comic-Con 2022, and will be seen trying to ascend to the Iron Throne at HBO Max’s immersive fan experience, “House of the Dragon: The Dragon’s Den”. Duolingo will also be gifting fans with “Wing of the King” pins to commemorate the updated High Valyrian course for HBO’s House of the Dragon.
HBO will also be launching the House of The Dragon AR App: DracARys at the Comic-Con. The app will allow the users to hatch and raise their own little dragons that respond to Valyrian commands, that can be learned via Duolingo.
So what are you waiting for? Sign up for Duolingo and get ready to revisit the land of Westeros in House of The Dragon!
