Game of Thrones Season 7 premiered last week, and with two episodes in, the season is already a banger. Game of Thrones has a history of having the second last episode of every season, have the best action. Usually this meant that the second last episode would be the best, but this time, our expectations rest of the sixth one. The cinematographer for Game of Thrones, Robert McLachlan, recently said that this year’s penultimate episode will be different. Read on!
Speaking to RadioTimes.com, Robert McLachlan talked specifically about the second last episode. He said :
“I’m really looking forward to that one because it’s quite different to the rest. It was filmed after my shoots – it was done mostly in the winter time. They filmed in dismal conditions in a quarry in Northern Ireland. I think they got some nice scenic stuff in Iceland as well.”
Robert talked about a quarry in Northern Ireland, which is likely to be the abandoned quarry by Magheramorne, where Game of Thrones has previously filmed for Castle Black, the White Walker scene at Hardhome, and the battle between the Night’s Watch and Wildlings, at the end of Season 4. Another important thing to note is that Iceland is usually used to film the scenes beyond the Wall and in the trailer for season 7, we have seen Jon Snow fighting against a White Walker.
Our money is on that one particular scene that HBO has been teasing in the trailers, where Jon Snow, Tormund Giantsbane, and others go beyond the wall, and are seen running through the snow. It’s also the same scene where we see them standing, along with Beric Dondarrion with his flaming sword, surrounded in all directions, by wights, who seem to be coming for them.
