The Sandman showrunner calls Game of Thrones’ Gwendoline Christie “a rockstar”
Game of Thrones ended nearly two years ago. The cast and crew of the show have moved on to newer ventures. Most have begun working on new filming projects, joining the likes of big production houses such as the MCU and DCEU. Gwendoline Christie, who played Brienne of Tarth on the show, will soon be appearing in one of the highly-anticipated DC shows on Netflix, playing an important role. Neil Gaiman’s The Sandman just released a new trailer for Netflix’s Geeked Week, and Christie looks amazing as a gender-swapped version of Lucifer.
The Sandman’s co-showrunner Allen Heinberg was impressed by Christie’s portrayal of Lucifer in the upcoming show. He told Empire, “There are few castings that can supersede that – maybe God, whatever that is! Also, it’s fun to be awful.”
Even The Sandman’s creator Neil Gaiman was in favor of her casting. He told Total Film magazine, “But watch 1,000 Death auditions. Hundreds of the actors we saw were gamine-esque, some white-skinned. It’s the Endless — we did color-blind casting, because why wouldn’t you? The comics establish that the characters look like whatever we want them to look like.”
“Anyway, Kirby’s amazing. And I think that people who have been grumbling that she doesn’t look like Death are going not to be grumbling [anymore] once they see her be Death.”
