George R. R. Martin explains why The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will have only six episodes
The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms premieres sooner than we think.
With the increasing excitement around House of the Dragon, fans can’t wait for another show based on George R.R. Martin’s source material to be released. Titled The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, the series is based on the adventures of Dunk and Egg as they make their way across Westeros. The source material is a variety of novellas that outline their vivid escapades.
Where is The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms filming?
Author George R.R. Martin recently posted to his Not a blog about the show. He informed his readers that filming for The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms is taking place in Belfast. This is also where most of Game of Thrones was shot. The Northern Ireland location is known for its old-timey towns and castles that make for a perfect backdrop for Westeros.

Number of episodes in The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms
Since the show will be based on novellas, Martin explains that it will only have six episodes. He further wrote, “Only six episodes for this one. A novella is considerably shorter than a novel (particularly one of my novels), so there’s less source material.” We’ve known this for over a year now.
The miniseries seems to have its narrative outlined well so that they can condense the story into merely six episodes. Fans hope the story does not feel too rushed and does justice to the incredible adventures of the duo knights. The cast for the show has reportedly been finalized.
The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms release date
Martin also shared that The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will premiere in early 2025. Till then, fans will have to relish each weekly episode of House of the Dragon.
Moreover, Martin claimed, “I hear that everything is going very well just now. Next month I will get to see for myself. Parris and I will be taking a few of our minions over to Belfast in mid-July, to visit the set, meet the cast, and take in some jousting.”
The Knight of the Seven Kingdoms will be a refreshing series away from the politics and betrayal of the court. Fans can’t wait to witness the exciting adventures of Dunk and Egg.
