Fantasy has always been everyone’s favourite mode of escape from problems of real life. Be it the vastness of space or the mystical land of dragons, they have kept fans hooked for decades. George Lucas, the man responsible for making Star Wars a household name, celebrated his 77th birthday on 14th this month. And he himself is a great fan of fantastical worlds, as evident from his great love for Game of Thrones. He once visited the set of the highly popular TV show during the filming of the 8th season.

He could have [made a cameo], with the beard!” joked Liam Cunningham (Davos Seaworth). “That’s not a bad idea. We should have stuck him in.” It was surely a fun experience, having this cinema icon on the set of a show that had become pretty iconic himself. Game of Thrones writer Bryan Cogman made sure to get a picture with George, and shared it on his birthday.

Happy Birthday George Lucas!

Innovative minds can be found in the most unexpected of places. The motivation to build something different often arises from an idea one loves dearly. Minecraft is one of the most popular games currently, where you can show off your creative ideas. One particular Minecraft server, Westeroscraft, is dedicated to building stuff related to the world of Game of Thrones. After months of hard work, they have finally managed to create their own Westeros inside the game. And it seriously looks amazing!

Below you’ll find a selection of recent tweets from Westeroscraft, providing some great images and explanations of what is being shown:

The official Westeroscraft Twitter account shared yet another screenshot of the work-in-progress Westeroscraft server. There, Minecraft fans who love A Song of Ice and Fire and Game of Thrones are recreating Westeros block by block, and the results are truly impressive as the images and videos linked at their official wiki show. We can’t imagine how many hours of work have gone into it!

Last week, One particular Game of Thrones fan created one of the most amazing dioramas of a medieval mini-alley in their bookshelf. It was like peering right into Westeros.

Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon has created a huge hype amongst fantasy lovers. HBO is leaving no stones unturned in the marketing of the fantasy series. In the last few days, they’ve released several photos of some of the key characters in costume. The locals at Cornwall have done their part as well, leaking a few pictures of the filming every now and then. However, it is a well-known fact fans are the most hyped up about one expected element – the Targaryen dragons. The show promises to provide the audience with a larger number of dragons, and we can’t wait to see them all.

Last week, locals at Cornwall spotted the crew filming at one of the sites. And it seemed a lot like a stand-in for one of the dragons. It looked a lot similar to how dragons were filmed in crucial scenes on Game of Thrones. Check it out yourself!

Game of Thrones actors had to use a lot of imagination when it came to acting alongside the dragons. Picture yourself acting in front of someone waving a ball on a stick at you pretending it is a fearsome flying fire-breathing dragon.

House of the Dragon will have a lot of dragons, far more than Game of Thrones. Which dragon do you think they are filming in the Tweet? Talk to us in the comments below!

Learning a new language is a fairly difficult task, let alone learning a fictional language. Getting the intonations and pronunciations to the point takes months of dedicated practice. An important part of a good fantasy is making sure it sets itself apart from reality, and a key component at that involves languages. The languages Dothraki and High Valyrian were fully developed solely for Game of Thrones. They were based upon the limited use of the languages in the books, by linguist David J. Peterson. He will soon be appearing in a Q&A session with Linguage, a high school student-run non-profit organization dedicated to promoting linguistics accessibility.

Linguage will host a Q&A session with Peterson on May 23rd at 3 PM EST through Zoom. However, this Q&A will more so focus on any questions about the language within the franchises and conlanging rather than the franchise itself. If you’re interested in joining, you can sign up on this link:

If you are curious, feel free to message the Redditor Hecate412 with any questions! There are a limited number of spots, so sign up while you can. Also if you’re currently a student, you’re highly encouraged to join the session.
