Tess’ last kiss with a Clicker earns The Last of Us an MTV nomination

Television giant HBO has been churning out hits-after-hits every year ever since its establishment. While 2022 belonged to the Game of Thrones prequel House of The Dragon, the year 2023 is off to a great start with The Last of Us. The video game adaptation is already being nominated for a number of awards, including a peculiar one that involves one of the most disgusting scenes in the show.

Tess’ kiss with the Clicker in The Last of Us nominated for Best Kiss

When we think about the best kiss from The Last of Us, something like Ellie and Riley’s kiss from Episode 7 pops up in our minds. However, instead of going for that, MTV decided to pick the highly controversial “Kiss of Death” from Episode 2. The scene wasn’t even in the original game.

The Last of Us earns 5 nominations including Best Show

The TV adaptation of the highly popular video game has managed to earn 5 nominations at the 2023 MTV Movie & TV Awards in the following categories: Best Show, Best Hero (Pedro Pascal), Best Kiss (Anna Torv + Philip Prajoux), Breakthrough Performance (Bella Ramsey), and the Best Duo (Pedro Pascal + Bella Ramsey).

Why the zombie kiss in Episode 2 was necessary for The Last of Us?

The Last of Us producer and the game’s creator, Neil Druckmann told Entertainment Weekly why the scene was important, “These things don’t have to get violent unless you’re fighting them from spreading [the infection] further. That is realized in this beautiful, yet horrific way with Anna.”

Co-showrunner Craig Mazin joined in to explain, “Part of the issue with the spores is that you run into them quite a bit in the game, although not as much as people think, and if there were that many spores and they were airborne, that infection’s gonna go even faster. It’s hard to imagine how anyone escapes it, and people would probably be wearing masks all the time. In the game, the second you leave a spore space, you’re like, ‘Whoa, whoa, whoa! Get a mile away.’”
