House of the Dragon Season 2 will have two massive battles, confirms showrunner Ryan Condal

When Ryan Condal started preparing and filming for House of the Dragon season 2, he made sure that the actors felt connected to their dragons. According to George R.R. Martin’s literature, Targaryens had a very close bond with their scaled beasts. So, the showrunner found it necessary to let the actors get fully acquainted with their dragons and their strengths.

This was necessary for another reason as the upcoming season features the most bloody carnage fans might have ever seen. Actors on the show needed to learn what their dragons were capable of and prepare to act accordingly.
To fully immerse the crew and the fans in the Dance of the Dragons, Condal did everything in his power and streamlined the stories. Talking about the grandeur of the battles and their respective episodes, Condal said in conversation with Den of Geek,
“The battles are episodes unto themselves. We have two of the largest sequences that we’ve ever filmed on House of the Dragon. Both of them outstrip anything that we did in season one. They are episodes within episodes.”
Creating dragons even with VFX involves a lot of work. Game of Thrones worked with three beasts, all of whom belonged to Daenerys. In House of the Dragon, season 1 alone had nine dragons and Condal says the upcoming season will introduce five more. Subsequently, this in itself outstrips the majestic scale of the show’s predecessor.
Moreover, Condal also stresses the generational conflict in the show that will be taken to a new level. Children will be fighting their parents’ battles and taking their legacy ahead.
