Peaky Blinders showrunner Steven Knight initially believed Game of Thrones was “a kids show”
Game of Thrones has an R-rating for a reason!
Those who have read George R. R. Martin‘s works know his books are not for the faint of heart. HBO’s TV adaptation of the Game of Thrones depicted some of the gore and nudity from the books, and that was enough to get the show an R-rating. However, acclaimed writer and Peaky Blinders showrunner had other views about the fantasy show.
Peaky Blinders showrunner thought Game of Thrones was a kids show
Peaky Blinders creator Steven Knight’s son is a big Game of Thrones fan, which is why he initially thought it was a kids show. He realized how wrong he was after casting Aidan Gillen (Littlefinger) in his own series. In a conversation with BBC journalist Katie Razzall (via Variety), Knight remembered his young son’s fascination with Game of Thrones, requesting a DVD box set for Christmas. Delighted to fulfill this wish, knowing it featured dragons, he obliged.
It was only when the idea of casting Aidan Gillen from Game of Thrones in Peaky Blinders came up that the mature themes of the series, created by George R.R. Martin, were realized. Upon recommending Gillen for Peaky Blinders, they informed Knight of his role as the brothel keeper in Game of Thrones, to which Knight exclaimed in surprise, “What are you talking about? It’s a kid’s show!”
Sophie Turner might be willing to reprise her role as Sansa Stark
Sophie Turner has become a renowned and adaptable actress in the film industry throughout the years. Nevertheless, she has always remained true to her origins. On being asked whether she would consider returning to Westeros after such a long time, she responded:
“Maybe. I mean, it would have to be the exact same cast and the exact same crew otherwise, I wouldn’t go back, and that would just be Season 9.”
