Paddy Considine reflects on whether House of the Dragon moved forth too fast
House of The Dragon Season 2 is on the precipice of a full-blown civil war with the now-adult protagonists because of the several time jumps we have seen since the beginning of the series. However, a lot of fans had complaints that Season 1 moved on a bit too fast, and a lot of them wanted to see more of the younger versions of Rhaenyra and Alicent, played by Milly Alcock and Emily Carey. Paddy Considine, who played King Viserys, explains why it was necessary to move on so quickly.
Paddy Considine says time skips gave more power to his portrayal of Viserys
In his recent interview with Deadline, Considine said, “There’s none of that wondering what is going to happen in Season 2, you know? There were some comments from people who felt that the show moved along too quickly. They wanted to live with the younger versions of Rhaenyra and Alicent, but for my character, I just think he would’ve gotten too drawn out. He would’ve become quite a boring character to spread out over a season. So, I was quite grateful to die.”
How the actors covered the time jumps in Season 1
Emma D’Arcy recently explained in an interview, “We time-jumped so often that I think you have a major responsibility to fill in those gaps. Obviously in season one it was quite nice because there was a whole backstory that was literally written down for me, which was five whole episodes of it, baby! (laughs) I think that’s probably one of the most enjoyable acts of preparation as an actor is getting to chat to your colleagues and to figure it out. It gives you so much the play and it gives you so many given circumstances to draw on, I suppose.”
