Nikolaj Coster-Waldau teams up with Google for climate change awareness
Game of Thrones has a setting which shows real threat to the human life, in the form of White walkers. We could say that climate change is the real life equivalent of the same. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister on Game of Thrones, has now teamed up with Google on a climate change awareness program that has him going through Greenland.
Nikolaj is helping Google get Google’s Street View to Southern Greenland, using Google’s 360 degree camera.
While Nikolaj is from Denmark, his wife hails from Greenland. He’s a UN goodwill ambassador, and he seems to be doing a good job at it! Talking about this project, he said :
“We’ve been hearing about the terror of climate change for a long time now. Images are very powerful, much more than a graph and statistics. The climate is changing but we can do something about it. We have the technology we have the brilliant minds. We need the will and it’s really the will of the people.”
The project had Nikolaj go through areas of Greenland, especially Qoorog Fjord, where the second largest ice sheet in the world, meets the sea, to highlight the melting of ice caps that is a direct consequence of global warming. The project has been going on since last year, but Google released the footage on the 6th of February. Check it out, below :
Google also released a timelapse video showing how the ice in Greenland has deteriorated over the years. Check it out, below :
In the meantime, Game of Thrones will return with Season 7 in summer this year, and Jaime Lannister finds himself in a tough spot, with one part of him that has become the good guy, and is uneasy with with what Cersei is doing, and other, that loves Cersei too much to say anything. Well, we’re glad Nikolaj Coster-Waldau is doing his part of good deeds in the real world! What do you think? Talk to us in the comments, below!
