Nikolaj Coster-Waldau says the Jaime-Brienne romance is “never” happening

When it comes to forming great on-screen relationships, Game of Thrones is a show that does not disappoint. May it be siblings, (incestuous or not), friendship, or something you cannot name, like Sansa and Theon, the relationships on the show have developed beautifully. One of our most favorite ships on the show, is Jaime Lannister with Brienne of Tarth. Over its course, their relationship has been shown to develop beautifully, and you can’t blame us for wanting the two to end up together. However, we have bad news for all you Jaime/Brienne shippers. Nikolaj Coster-Waldau, who plays Jaime Lannister, has just said that he doesn’t see them happening. Read on!
Nikolaj recently talked to Mashable about all things Jaime/Cersei, and the actor seems to think that his character is all twin or nothing. Talking about how he doesn’t see Jaime and Brienne getting into something romantic, Nikolaj said :
“It’s an interesting relationship. There’s no question there’s a lot of emotion between them, they have a shared history. I think he’s committed to his sister. I don’t think any romantic — even if there are — I mean clearly [he and Brienne] have emotional responses when they’re together — but they would never, I don’t think he allows that to get into his mind or to act on it at all.”
He went on to explain how he thinks Jaime will probably stick to Cersei :
“This has been going since they were 15/16 and it’s been all about — his life has been about serving her needs…I think that kind of programming is not — I mean I think when he spent that year with Brienne on the road…that was the first time ever he had forcefully been away from his sister for that long a stretch of time.
But yeah, he is very much — he clearly doesn’t seem to be able to let go of that.
I think he loves his sister.”
Nikolaj also said that Jaime wouldn’t like it if someone came between the twins. He said :
“I don’t know, I mean I haven’t seen anyone come between them, so I don’t know. It’s difficult to know how people would react — I mean how would you react?”
All things said, Nikolaj did almost let slip an important Season 7 detail about Cersei, and his comments on the Queenslayer (or should we say Twinslayer?) theory seem to suggest that we’re not too far off. What do you think? Will Jaime/Brienne ever happen? Talk to us in the comments, below!
