Emma D’Arcy shared their reaction to their Golden Globe nomination with Gold Derby. This nomination feels different for D’Arcy compared to their first for HBO’s fantasy series. D’Arcy said:

“When I was at the ceremony, I think my body was just in a sort of fight-flight response the whole time. It was so adrenalizing and so far away from any experience I’d had prior to that. But, in a very lovely way, I have a different perspective now, and I think this series has felt particularly personal to me. I have such love for the show and for the people who make it. It makes me feel emotional to have an opportunity to reflect on all of that labor.”

D’Arcy avoids social media feedback but values fan interactions. They cherish fans’ connections to Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen and long-form storytelling’s unique bond between actors and viewers. They revealed:

“I do meet people lots and lots in life — it’s an amazing, very beautiful part of my job. People are really vocal about how they connect with the work. One of the beautiful aspects of long-form television is that both the actor and the viewer develops a long-term relationship with these characters, and that feels really special to me.”

Looking ahead, D’Arcy feels more grounded. They said:

“I think I’ll be able to stay inside my body this time around. I feel deeply fortunate to get to represent the show before we go and shoot another one.”

Fan reactions to D’Arcy’s nomination

Meanwhile, social media buzzed with excitement following D’Arcy’s Golden Globe nomination. Fans flooded platforms with messages celebrating the House of the Dragon actor’s achievement. Many highlighted that D’Arcy’s nomination was the only one for the series, making it even more significant.

Viewers expressed gratitude that their powerful portrayal of Queen Rhaenyra Targaryen received recognition, particularly given that some felt D’Arcy had not been prominently promoted during the show’s campaign. The nomination was seen as a well-earned acknowledgment of their talent.
