Ian Beattie (Meryn Trant) says his character's death was planned way back in Season 2
Game of Thrones is a show that has showed a lot of murders over the years, and our favorite killer, by far is none other than Arya Stark. Now, we have seen her butcher up a lot of people over the years, but one of the best of them was the death of Meryn Trant. Arya Killed him at the end of Season 5, and we would be lying if we said we didn’t absolutely enjoy it. Now, in a new interview, Ian Beattie, who played the role of Meryn Trant, has revealed that the death had been planned way back during Season 2 of the show. Read on!
Ian Beattie was in Barcelona promoting Game of Thrones: The Touring Exhibition, where he spoke to Game of Thrones fan site Los Siete Reinos. Apparently the death of his character had been planned by the showrunners David Benioff and D.B. Weiss way back in Season 2 :
“I was on set the second season and D & D told me “you’ve heard you’re dying this season.””
He continued :
“..and they told me they had plans for later. I thought they were going to kill me that season.”
Beatie had assumed he would die trying to kill Tyrion at the Battle of the Blackwater, but apparently they had other plans for him. He said :
“..but Benioff and Weiss told me, “You’re going to die later. Arya is going to kill you.” I did not tell anyone for three years.”
He also talked about while how the character was a horrible person, he enjoyed playing him :
“For the first four and a half seasons it was very easy and fun to be Meryn. He has no redeeming qualities. In Game of Thrones, if you have doubts about your character, go to Dan (Weiss), David (Benioff) or Bryan (Cogman) and instantly they solve them. You have the best guides, you also have the best directors in the world, you have all the help.”
He talked about a few other things, too, so go check it out, here. (Translate recommended) Talk to us in the comments, down below!
