House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 4 ends with the biggest cliffhanger yet
We don’t know if Aegon II survives the episode.

House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 4 had a lot going on, but the way it ended left us all with questions. After a ton of fighting, the episode ends with the result of what Aemond’s suppressed frustration with his brother Aegon II has led to. We see Criston Cole look for Aegon II to try and find him after his fall with Sunfyre, but it’s not clear if he’s dead, or just burned.
This figure of Aemond Targaryen also comes with a chance of receiving a Chase version of the figure, which shows a glow-in-the-dark Aemond with Sapphire Eye.
Aemond burns Aegon II in House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 4
House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 4 showed the Battle of Rook’s Rest. Despite the general avoidance of dragon vs. dragon fights so far, we saw this episode get to exactly those, as Aegon II strapped on to Sunfyre to prove himself by winning the Battle at Rook’s Rest.
Following a lifetime of bullying, we saw Aemond’s angst build up to the maximum in Episode 3, when Aegon II and his mates found him at the brothel. Aemond seems to have been making decisions about the war behind his brother’s back. That includes attacking Rook’s Rest instead of Harrenhal, which makes Aegon II want to prove that he’s worthy of the throne.
As Criston Cole and Gwayne Hightower attack Rook’s Rest, we see Rhaenys arrive with Meleys. Aemond is hiding in the forest with Vhagar, waiting for them, as planned. However, he sees Aegon arrive with Sunfyre, which irks him. He waits until Aegon II and Rhaenys are entangled in battle before swooping in.
While Meleys and Sunfyre are still fighting, we see Aemond say Dracarys to Vhagar. He seems to do it fully aware that he will burn both dragons and their riders. Meleys, however, dodges the attack, leading to Aegon II and Sunfyre getting a faceful of dragonfire, and plumetting into the ground.

Criston Cole looks for Aegon II, and we finally see him spot Aemond, approaching the rubble that is Sunfyre, with his sword drawn out. Cole asks Aemond where Aegon is, and sees him in front of the dragon, burnt. We don’t know if Aegon is dead, and although Cole seems shook, it’s still a massive cliffhanger.
In the books, he gets burned and needs a year to recover, and Aemond takes on the duties of the King regent. We’ll have to wait until the next episode to really see how House of the Dragon follows, or deviates from, the lore.
