House of the Dragon foreshadows the death of a major character in Season 2 Episode 2
Although the episode is packed with exciting moments, you need to pay close attention to this scene to understand how the character will face death.
The House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 3 promo is out with hints at the first major battle of the civil war, “The Battle of the Burning Mill“. In Fire & Blood, the book the House of the Dragon is based on, there are multiple major battles, including one of the important ones—”The Battle of the Gullet“.
For those who read the book, you already know what happens in the war. In the second episode of Season 2 of the Game of Thrones prequel show, the makers used the ‘foreshadowing’ storytelling technique to give viewers hints about the eventual fate of one of the major characters, Jacaerys Velaryon.
Housed in a finely carved wooden box, this set is an absolute must-have for any House of the Dragon enthusiast!

House of the Dragon Season 2 Episode 2 foreshadows the death of Jacaerys Velaryon
If you plan to watch the second episode, you need to pay close attention to the scene that appears right after Arryk is tasked with killing Queen Rhaenyra. The scene in question shows Baela shooting an arrow and Jacaerys approaching her in the same frame. This particular scene was shot from a distance, so you wouldn’t know where the arrow hit.
The very next scene shows Baela aiming a crossbow at the H-shaped wooden structure, near which standing Jacaerys Velaryon. Simply put, it shows he’s in the range of the crossbow, almost as if he’s going to get hit. Of course, Baela doesn’t kill Jacaerys with the arrow in that scene, but it definitely foreshadows Jacaerys’ fate.
What happens to Jacaerys in the book
In Fire & Blood, Jacaerys dies after being hit by crossbow quarrels during the Battle of the Gullet. Here is how George R. R. Martin described his death in the book:
“An easy victory for the blacks seemed at hand, until Vermax flew too low, possibly wounded from a crossbow bolt to the eye or pulled down by a grapnel, and crashed into a burning galley. Jacaerys lept free and clung to the smoking wreckage of the ship, but was struck by Myrish crossbow quarrels until he sank into the sea.”
